May 7th, 2003
Well, on April 29, I flew back to the Netherlands and slept during the day. :-) Then on April 30, I partied for Queen's Day, the biggest holiday in Holland! The best moment was in the evening when I was sitting with a friend on a bench overlooking one of the rivers of Amsterdam and this guy is standing on the shore and we could only see his head and he turns to us and says "I'm urinating." Then he lifts one arm, "I'm not holding it with this hand." then he lifts the other arm, "or this hand." then lifts both arms and says "whoa!!" LOL
On Saturday, Elisabetta, Benoît and I explored Rotterdam, with the highlight of the day being the Cube Houses Museum. On Sunday, we changed the carpet of my office. Yay! Monday, we went to Haarlem to work at an Esperanto booth. Yesterday, we went to Brussels for a symposium in the European Parliament entitled What language policies for a multilingual European Union? That was pretty cool and we even passed some kind of declaration asking the member states to research the possibility of using a planned language (such as Esperanto) as a way to resolve language discrimination in the expanded EU (which will have 21 official languages).
Tonight, I looked down at the date on my computer and saw 5/7/2003 (yeah, it's set for US date/time... I'm so American) and then I remembered, oh wait, I'm going to Heidelberg on Friday for the Viertes 3-Länder-Treffen! Ack! So, I pulled up the website for the Nederlandse Spoorwegen, but there was no price, so I decided to go with a round trip for 71 euros with the Eurolines bus company. So, here I come Heidelberg!
